Your Complete Guide to Spotting a Safe Deal (and Avoiding Scams)

Are you looking to buy a second-hand Thermomix in Ireland? You're not alone. With the price of a new Thermomix TM7 rising, it’s no surprise more people are turning to the second-hand market to get started. But with demand comes risks: scams, faulty machines, and sellers who aren’t upfront.

After 22 years of using Thermomix® and supporting over 600 clients during my 12 years as an advisor in Ireland and the UK, I’ve seen it all. While I’m no longer a Thermomix advisor, I continue to share what I know to help others buy with confidence. That’s why I created a free Facebook group and a practical checklist to help you avoid costly mistakes and feel more secure when buying second-hand.

Whether you’re eyeing a TM5, TM6 or TM7, this blog will guide you through what to check, what to ask, and when to walk away.

Join the Community: Second-hand Thermomix Ireland Facebook Group

Different Thermomix models shared in the Preloved Items Facebook group for second-hand Thermomix buyers in Ireland

I set up this Facebook group to protect second-hand buyers like you. Too many people were getting caught out, buying machines that didn’t work properly, missing essential parts, or in some cases, not receiving anything at all.

In the group, you’ll find:

  • Real listings from real people in Ireland

  • Advice on pricing and condition

  • Tips from me and others in the community

  • A safer space to ask questions before you buy

What to Ask & Check Before You Buy a Used Thermomix

If you’re buying from a private seller, don’t be afraid to ask questions. If the offer feels too good to be true, it usually is.

Here’s a breakdown of what to look for.

1. Ask the Basics

Start with the obvious:

  • What model is it? (TM31, TM5, TM6, TM7)

  • When was it purchased? and where?

  • Is there proof of purchase?

  • Is it fully paid to Vorwerk?

  • Why are they selling?

  • Has it been used for demos or commercially (like in a restaurant)?

  • Is the Cookidoo® account unlinked?

  • What parts and accessories (if any) are included in the price?

If it’s a TM5, ask if the Cook-Key is included (you need this for Wi-Fi and recipes) and if it has been unlinked from their profile.

2. Check the Physical Condition

Look at the actual machine and parts:

  • Are the blades loose or worn?

  • Is the spatula bent or softened at the tip?

  • Any cracks, leaks, or damage to the bowl or seals?

  • Does the power cord pull out smoothly or is it stained or stuck?

  • Are the accessories original Vorwerk parts?

3. Test the Functionality (If You Can)

Ask the seller to:

  • Turn on the machine — should start without errors

  • Test the touchscreen (TM6/TM7)

  • Weigh something — scales should be accurate and stable

  • Boil water to 100°C — to check the heating element

  • Run the pre-clean mode — to test motor and blade at all speeds

  • Open a Cookidoo® recipe — to check access

If they can’t show you this in person or via video, be cautious.

4. Understand the Usage History

  • Has the machine had blades or seals replaced?

  • Is the software up to date?

  • Was it used by a Thermomix advisor or in a commercial setting?

5. Warranty & Support

  • Standard Thermomix® warranty is 2 years from the purchase date.

  • Blades and seals are considered wear and tear, so they’re not covered.

  • You can contact Vorwerk with the serial number to verify model history.

6. Power Compatibility (Very Important!)

Check the plug type:

  • UK 3-pin?

  • EU 2-pin?

  • US plug? ( These run on 110V — NOT suitable for Ireland without a transformer)

Always check the underside label for voltage and plug type.

A Final Word from Me

I created these resources to help genuine buyers feel more confident. But please remember:I am not responsible for any transaction or outcome of a second-hand purchase.

Use your judgment, trust your gut, and ask for help if you’re unsure. Feel free to contact me through the site or join the Facebook group if you have any questions.

Happy Thermomixing!

FAQ

  1. Can I use a US Thermomix in Ireland? Not recommended. US models are 110V and require a voltage converter.

  2. Do second-hand Thermomix machines come with a warranty?Only if they’re still within the 2-year original warranty period. Blades and seals are not covered even in the 2 year warranty.

  3. How do I know if the Cookidoo account is unlinked?Ask the seller to show you that the account is removed from the device. If it’s still connected, you may not be able to register it.

  4. Is the Cook-Key essential? For the TM5, if you want recipes in the machine and do guided cooking, yes

  5. How often do the blades need replacing?Typically every 4–5 years with home use, more often with commercial or demo use.
