We all face changes every day – whether it is a simple change in the weather, our schedule or expected change of seasons. And currently in the middle of a pandemic, we have to deal with changes every single day.
Change affects us all and we each deal with change differently. To expect change helps during challenging or unexpected life events.
It can also bring fear in situations where the last thing you want is change and particularly when the change is not driven by you, but by outside forces.
Having the awareness that it is not the circumstances or the changes that dictate how life will go, but rather how you handle those changes and disruptions. No matter the change we experience, how we embrace that change will forever impact how we are able to live with the change.
What coping strategies do you use to help you manage unexpected life changes? Do you fall back into old patterns or damaging behaviors or do you practice acceptance and other positive recovery coping behaviors?
Acceptance involves action through positive coping strategies such as:
- journaling and
- mindfulness practice.
Another positive approach to change involves reaching out to a supportive network of peers, a counselor, family and friends.Their insight and perspective may be that change required to push you forward in the right direction. You do not have to go through a difficult time alone.
Remember that changes are a normal part of life. It is also amazing how we each have our own resiliency and ability to recover from, or adjust easily to, change. .
Embrace change as an opportunity for continuous renewal and growth. Being grateful for the new situation and all the learnings that it brought to you. .
In coaching, one thing we always have in all the sessions with clients is change. When the client comes to a session with me, he / she is ready to start the process and it is a pleasure for me to see how much the person grows during the time we work together.
